The
Buddhadharma and the
Medicine Buddha Practice for
Self-Healing
The
main focus of the Healing Buddha Foundation is to spread the
teachings of Buddhism.
Buddhism began
2500 years ago with the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha.
Buddha taught that all the suffering in the world is the
result of our bad past actions and that this suffering can
be overcome by practicing virtue. The final goal is the
ultimate happiness of enlightenment.
The Buddha
showed the path to developing all good qualities - the
perfection of generosity, morality, perseverance, patience,
concentration, and wisdom. He also showed the methods for
overcoming the three roots of all our suffering - anger,
attachment, and ignorance.
The pinnacle of
the Buddhas teachings lies in the Bodhisattva ideal.
As one encounters the challenges of the spiritual path one
never forgets the suffering of other beings. A vow is taken
to attain enlightenment for their sake.
When Buddhism
spread from India to Tibet in the 6th century the Tibetans
embraced this Bodhisattva ideal. It is the foundation for
all spiritual practice and is essential to the teachings of
Tibetan Tantric Buddhism.
Of all the
great Tibetan masters and scholars of Buddhism one of the
greatest was Lama Je Tsongkhapa. During his time there was a
great reform of Buddhist teachings after a long period of
decline.
This great lama
taught the Graduated Path to Enlightenment&emdash;Lam Rim, a
step-by-step method of achieving the ultimate state of
Buddhahood.
Lama Je
Tsongkhapas teachings were passed down in a pure oral
tradition through the generations of masters up to the
teachers of our foundation. The followers of Lama Je
Tsongkhapas teachings became known as the Gelugpas,
which means the virtuous ones.
Unique to the
Foundations curriculum is the Medicine Buddha Practice
with the yogas of Prana Therapy taught by Venerable Segyu
Choepel Rinpoche. The Medicine Buddha Practice is a method
that guides the practitioner through visualizations and
mantras, training the mind in the enlightened qualities of
all of the Buddhas. The Prana Therapy yogas work directly
with the subtle energy system to purify and transform the
elements and channels, creating the causes to attain
Buddhas pure body.
